J/s

Power calculator

If you want to determine the work done by an object in a unit of time, you can use our power calculator.

In physics, the rate of work done or energy transferred by an object in a unit of time is called power. The SI unit to measure power is Watt (w), equivalent to the joules per second (J/s). It is a scalar quantity as the power depends upon the rate of work done. Moreover, you may notice a machine having a Horsepower (hp) because the power of machines and motor vehicles is measured in HP, whereas 1Hp is equivalent to 745 watts.

Formula of Power Calculator

To instantly find out the percentile of an object, you can jump to our calculator. Or to find it manually, you can use the formula listed below:

P = W / T

Where,

P = Power

W = Work

T = Time

Example

For a more precise understanding of the concept, let us solve an example below:

If a person has work done of 5000 Joules in 2 minutes, then determine the power consumed.

Given data

W = Work = 5000 J
T = Time = 2 min = 120 sec

To Find

Power = ?

Solution

To find out the power consumed by a person, we will use the formula listed below:

P = W / T

Putting values in the formula:

P = 5000 / 120 = 41.7 J/s
