Percent Yield Calculator

This free online percent yield calculator calculates the percent yield by using the values of actual yield and theoretical yield.

Percent yield is actually a ratio that allows you to calculate the effectiveness of a chemical reaction. It is calculated as the actual yield divided by the theoretical yield and multiplied by 100. If we have a condition that actual and theoretical yield is the same then we have the percent yield is 100%. This is somehow impossible as we get the side products in a reaction and some of the reactants are wasted during the reaction.

Formula of Percent Yield Calculator

The formula to calculate the percent yield is as follows

Percent yield = (actual yield / theoretical yield) x 100

Where,

Actual yield = amount of product that is obtained by a chemical reaction.

Theoretical yield = obtained from the stoichiometric or balanced equation.

Note:

Read more about it in our Annual Percentage Yield Calculator.

Example

If we have the amount of actual yield as 5g, and the amount of theoretical yield as 7g. Then find the percent yield.

Given data

actual yield = 5 g
theoretical yield = 7 g

To Find

percent yield = ?

Solution

By using the formula listed below, you can find the percent yield.

Percent yield = (actual yield / theoretical yield) x 100

Putting values in the formula:

percent yield = ( 5 / 7) * 100
percent yield = 71.43%
