# Power Definition

In physics, the **amount of energy** **carried by an object** in **unit time** is called **power**. To calculate the power SI unit used to represent is Watt (w), equal to the joules per second (J/s). As the power depends on the work done by an object, it is a scalar quantity. Moreover, you may see a device having a Horsepower (hp) because the motor vehicle and machine's power is measured in HP, whereas 745 watts are equivalent to 1HP.

Work = 7000 J

Time = 3 min = 180 sec

**To Find**

Power = ?

**Solution**

To find out the power consumed by a truck, we will use the formula listed below:

P = W / T

Putting values in the formula:

P = 7000 / 180 = 38.88 J/s
